State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell announced on April 25, 2006, that 377 California public elementary schools have been selected as 2006 California Distinguished Schools. Among those honored was Browns Valley School. These schools are the best of the best. They share a vision of excellence and they have brought that vision to life, said O’Connell, who called each school principal on Monday to personally give them the good news. Hearing the excitement and the pride in their voices was incredible. These deserving school leaders and their teachers, staffs, and students have worked extremely hard to achieve academic success and this recognition.

Browns Valley School is located on the north side of Vacaville and serves a mixed residential neighborhood and rural population of students.  The school opened on July 3, 1991, with 643 students, as a year round school operating on a 4 track schedule, 60/20 system.  We are currently operating with 905 students.  The 2009-2010 school year Browns Valley switched to a modified traditional calendar that the rest of the district is now using.  The school plant consists of an office complex, a library, multipurpose room, 20 regular classrooms, and 21 portables.
